Born in Hong Kong, SO Ka-wai obtained both his undergraduate and M.Phil degrees from Hong Kong Baptist University, majoring in music composition under the guidance of Christopher Keyes and Christopher Coleman. His works have been premiered both locally and internationally, including at the Asian Composers League Conference and Festival (2011 in Taipei, 2015 in the Philippines), the Yogyakarta Contemporary Music Festival (Indonesia), the World Saxophone Congress (the XVI in Scotland, the XX in Harbin), and the Kagoshima Asian Youth Arts Festival (Japan). Furthermore, his compositions have frequently been selected as set pieces for the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.

Influenced by his musical training, SO Ka-wai is recognized as one of the local composers who focuses on composing and arranging music for wind bands. He has received commissions for new works, including the saxophone concerto "Infatuazione" (2013), "Utterance of Winds" (2012), "Drunken Xuanwu" (2016), "Fantasy Overture on the Theme of MFM" (2017), "Refined Vermilion Bird" (2019), and the concert suite "Historical Images," based on Hong Kong Band History (2023).

In addition to his work as a composer, SO Ka-wai is an active clarinetist. He began learning the clarinet at the age of thirteen with Mr. Cheung Wan, Mr. Andrew Simon, and Mr. Martin Choy Kwok-tin. While studying at HKBU, he performed in a masterclass conducted by Dr. David Pino.

Currently, he is a member of the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Ltd. (CASH) and the Hong Kong Composers' Guild.

蘇家威畢業於香港浸會大學，隨祈道緯教授及高爾文博士學習作曲，先後獲得音樂（榮譽）文學士及哲學碩士（作曲理論）學位。他的音樂曾於本地及海外演出，包括日惹市當代音樂節（印尼）、亞洲作曲家聯盟會議（2011年台北、2015年菲律賓）、國際薩克管會議（第十六屆蘇格蘭、第二十屆哈爾濱）、鹿兒島亞洲青少年藝術祭（日本）等。此外，他的作品亦多次獲香港校際音樂節選為指定曲目。

受管樂團的訓練影響，蘇氏近年創作和編寫了不少管樂團作品，包括庇利羅士管樂團委約的薩克管協奏曲《痴、情、狂》（2013）、香港管樂協會委約的《風的話語》（2012）、《醉玄武》（2016）；以及香港作曲家聯會委約的《樂韻播萬千》幻想序曲（2017）、《煉朱雀》（2019），以及香港管樂聯盟根據香港管樂歷史創作的《歷史景象》（2023）。

除了作曲工作，蘇氏亦是一位活躍的單簧管演奏者。他曾隨張宏、史安祖及蔡國田學習單簧管，並參加過由Dr. David Pino主持的單簧管大師班。

目前，蘇氏為香港作曲及作詞家協會及香港作曲家聯會的會員。
